Who Am I

DAILY BLOG

My post content

Who am I?

I had to take a breath before writing this one.

Because if I'm being honest, this isn't the first time I've asked myself that question.

I've asked it many times throughout my life.

Especially during seasons when I wasn't healed.

The seasons where I held on to those "woe is me" moments.

The times when it felt like everything was happening to me instead of for me.

The moments when I convinced myself it was me against the world.

Funny thing is...

The whole world didn't even know.

Most people didn't know what I was carrying.

Most people had no idea what thoughts were running through my mind.

And today?

The world doesn't even know that I'm sitting here in Arizona writing daily blogs, hoping that one thought, one sentence, or one story might encourage someone else.

Life has a way of changing our perspective.

If you had asked me this question today, I think my answer would be very different than it would have been fifteen years ago.

Fifteen years ago, I probably would have introduced myself by saying my name.

My age.

What I enjoyed doing.

Maybe where I worked.

Maybe where I lived.

But would any of those things have truly answered the question?

Would they have explained who I really was?

I don't think so.

Those things describe us.

They don't define us.

Knowing someone's name doesn't mean you know their heart.

Knowing someone's occupation doesn't tell you what they've overcome.

Knowing someone's hobbies doesn't reveal the lessons they've learned along the way.

Who we are goes much deeper than the facts listed on a piece of paper.

I know more now than I did back then.

Not because I've figured life out.

Far from it.

But because life has introduced me to different experiences.

Different people.

Different challenges.

And with each experience, I discovered another piece of myself.

Some pieces I was proud of.

Some needed work.

Some surprised me.

Growth has a way of doing that.

It introduces us to versions of ourselves we didn't know existed.

I think that's one of the beautiful parts of getting older.

You stop trying so hard to become someone else.

And you spend more time discovering the person you've been becoming all along.

So today, if someone asked me who I am, I don't think I'd begin with my name.

I'd probably say...

I'm someone who enjoys learning.

Someone who enjoys writing.

Someone who believes people deserve kindness.

Someone who still asks questions.

Someone who's growing every single day.

And someone who knows there's still more to discover.

Maybe that's enough.

Now let me ask you the same question.

Who are you?

Not your job title.

Not your age.

Not where you live.

Who are you... really?

What makes you smile?

What keeps you going?

What values do you carry with you?

What lessons have shaped the person you've become?

I would genuinely enjoy knowing.

One of the things I love most about writing these daily reflections is realizing there are people from different places, different backgrounds, and different walks of life reading the same words.

When you really think about it, having friends from all over the world is a pretty amazing thing.

Different stories.

Different experiences.

Different perspectives.

Yet here we are, connected through something as simple as words.

I think that's pretty special.

So before you move on with your day, take a moment.

Ask yourself the question.

Who am I?

You might be surprised by the answer.

Or perhaps...

You may discover that you're still becoming the person you're meant to be.

And that's perfectly okay.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Take care of yourself.

Keep growing.

Keep learning.

And until tomorrow...

Continue becoming the best version of who you already are.
