A house key is a small thing.

Most of us throw one into a pocket, purse, drawer, or cup holder without thinking twice about it.

But house keys often represent important chapters of life.

The first apartment.

The first home.

A college dorm.

A childhood house.

A place you couldn't wait to leave.

A place you wish you could visit one more time.

Each key tells a story.

At some point, someone handed you that key and trusted you with responsibility. It meant you belonged there. It meant you had access to something important.

Over time, keys come and go.

Some are returned. Some are lost. Some get tossed into a box and forgotten for years.

Every now and then, you find an old key and wonder where it came from.

Then the memory returns.

You remember the neighborhood. The people. The routines. The version of yourself who carried it every day.

It's amazing how a small piece of metal can unlock so many memories.

The older we get, the more keys we seem to collect. Not just physical keys, but experiences tied to them.

Each one represents a chapter.

Some chapters lasted a long time. Others were brief.

But every key opened a door to a piece of your life story.

Something to think about: Do you still have a key from a place that meant something to you?
