The Finisher

Have you ever started something and just couldn't leave it alone until you saw it through?

Maybe it was a project, a book, cleaning the house, putting something together, learning something new, or even something as simple as a task you told yourself you were going to get done that day. There is just something about starting something that makes you want to see it to the end.

That's finisher energy.

I actually like the feeling of completing something. There is a certain satisfaction that comes with looking at what you started and being able to say, "Yep, that's done." Maybe it took longer than expected. Maybe I had to stop and come back to it. Maybe there were a few moments when I wondered why I even started in the first place. But getting to the end makes the effort worth it.

I think a lot of people can relate to that.

We all have things we start with good intentions. Sometimes we finish them quickly. Sometimes we don't. Life has a funny way of getting in the middle of our plans. Work gets busy. Time disappears. Energy runs low. Something else becomes more important. Before you know it, that thing you were working on is sitting somewhere waiting for you to come back to it.

I've had that happen too.

I like to finish what I start, but I'm also realistic enough to know that I'm only one person. I can't do everything at once, and sometimes I have to make a decision about what gets my attention first. That doesn't mean I forgot about something. Sometimes it simply means the timing wasn't right.

I think that's an important part of being a finisher. It's not about rushing just so you can put a checkmark next to something. It's about putting in the work and giving yourself a real chance to complete it.

There are times when you have to step away, regroup, and come back with a little more energy. There's nothing wrong with that. Taking a break doesn't mean you've quit. Sometimes it means you're giving yourself what you need to finish properly.

I've also learned that finishing something doesn't always mean it turned out exactly the way you imagined. Sometimes you have to make adjustments along the way. You learn something new. You change your approach. You realize the original plan wasn't going to work. That's okay. The goal is still to keep moving forward.

Maybe you're working on something right now that you've been meaning to finish. A book. A project. A goal. A room you've been avoiding cleaning. Whatever it is, maybe today is the day you pick it back up.

And if today isn't that day, that's okay too. Just don't forget about it.

There is something good about being able to look back and see the things you've completed. Those finished moments become reminders that you are capable of getting things done, even when they take longer than expected.

So if you're a finisher, keep going. Keep putting in the work. Keep giving yourself permission to pause when you need to. Just remember why you started in the first place.

As for me, I'll keep working toward the finish line. Some things may take longer than others, and some may have to wait their turn, but when I decide something is worth finishing, I want to see it through.

After all, starting something is exciting.

But there is nothing quite like being able to say...

"I finished it."

Just something that crossed my mind today.

Until next time.
