The Aggressor

My post content

Today's title took me in a completely different direction than I thought it would. The moment I read it, I immediately thought about people I've met throughout my life. Not a lot of them, thankfully, but enough to remember the feeling they left behind.

I've never really cared for aggressive people. I don't know about you all, but that type of energy has never been for me. I like peace. I like being able to have a conversation, even if we don't agree. I don't think every discussion has to turn into an argument or someone trying to prove they're right.

Over the years, I've come across people who always seemed ready for a fight. It didn't matter what the topic was. They would raise their voice, cut people off, or make everything feel bigger than it needed to be. I used to sit there wondering, "Why?" Why put so much energy into something that could probably be worked out with a simple conversation?

Now, I do understand that everyone has a story. We don't always know what another person has gone through before they crossed our path. Maybe life has been hard on them. Maybe that's all they've ever known. I can't answer that. What I can say is that I've learned I don't have to absorb someone else's energy just because they're standing in front of me.

One thing I've gotten better at over the years is walking away. Not because I don't have something to say, but because I've realized my peace is worth protecting. Every disagreement doesn't deserve my attention, and every person doesn't deserve my energy. Sometimes the best response is no response at all.

That doesn't mean I won't stand up for myself. If I need to speak, I will. If something isn't right, I'll say what needs to be said. I just don't believe I have to become aggressive to get my point across. Respect has always carried more weight with me than intimidation ever could.

Have you ever been around someone like that? You can almost feel the room change when they walk in. Everything gets a little tense, and everyone starts choosing their words more carefully. I've experienced it enough to know that's not the type of atmosphere I want around me.

These days, I choose calm whenever I can. Life brings enough challenges on its own. I don't feel the need to add more by surrounding myself with unnecessary conflict. If I can leave a conversation with my peace still intact, I consider that a pretty good day.

Maybe that's just the way I see it. Just another thought that crossed my mind today.

Until next time.

Enjoy your day. Looking towards Sunday. Bye....
