Some People Don't Want Solutions, They Want An Audience

Have you ever noticed that some people have the same problem every single week?

Not a similar problem.

The exact same problem.

They complain about it.

You offer a solution.

They reject the solution.

Then next week they're back with the same complaint.

Eventually you realize something.

They're not looking for an answer.

They're looking for an audience.

There is a difference.

People seeking solutions are willing to make changes.

People seeking attention are committed to the problem because the problem keeps the spotlight on them.

That can be a hard lesson to learn.

Especially if you're the type of person who genuinely likes helping others.

Not every complaint is a request for advice.

Not every crisis is looking for a rescue.

Sometimes people simply want someone to listen.

And sometimes they want someone to repeatedly validate their choices.

The challenge is learning the difference.

Because if you're constantly trying to solve problems for people who don't want solutions, you'll drain yourself trying to fill a cup with a hole in the bottom.
