Sitting Here

Sitting here.

Funny how those two words can mean so many different things.

The first thing that came to mind was the simple act of sitting.

You know how you sit somewhere for so long that your legs begin to stiffen?

Then, when it's finally time to stand up, you realize your body isn't quite as ready as your mind.

I think we've all experienced that at one time or another.

Maybe it was on a Greyhound bus during a long trip.

Maybe it was while sitting through an extended phone call.

Maybe it was during a road trip.

Maybe it was while waiting at an appointment.

The list could go on.

Sometimes we've simply been sitting too long.

But the more I thought about today's title, I realized it isn't only about physically sitting somewhere.

There are other ways we find ourselves sitting.

We sit with our thoughts.

We sit with difficult decisions.

We sit with emotions we'd rather not carry.

Sometimes we sit things out.

Sometimes we sit quietly just to gather ourselves before moving forward.

Life has a way of asking us to do that.

There are moments when we become lost in thought.

Moments when we don't know our next move.

No handbook.

No instruction manual.

Just us.

Trying to make the best decisions we can with the information we have.

That's adulthood.

Responsibility doesn't come with perfect answers.

It simply asks us to keep showing up.

One moment at a time.

One decision at a time.

The interesting thing is that we all carry something.

Some people are sitting with excitement.

Others are sitting with uncertainty.

Some are sitting with hope.

Others are sitting with questions they haven't found answers to yet.

You never really know what someone else is quietly carrying.

Perhaps that's why a little kindness goes such a long way.

Today, I found myself doing a little of both.

I was literally sitting.

But I was also sitting with my thoughts.

Trying to decide what I wanted to do with a day I'd taken off.

No schedule.

No rush.

No clock telling me where I needed to be next.

Just time.

And honestly...

That felt pretty nice.

Sometimes we spend so much time wishing for a day off that when it finally arrives, we don't know what to do with it.

Should we rest?

Should we catch up on errands?

Should we go somewhere?

Should we stay home?

It's funny how many possibilities can exist in one quiet day.

As I sat there thinking, I realized something.

Not every moment needs to be filled.

Not every hour needs a plan.

Sometimes it's perfectly okay to simply sit.

To breathe.

To reflect.

To let your mind wander.

To enjoy the peace you've worked so hard to create.

Those moments matter too.

So today, I simply wanted to share that thought.

Maybe you've had days like this.

Maybe you've found yourself sitting with more than just your body.

If so, you're certainly not alone.

And if today happens to be one of those days, I hope you give yourself permission to slow down.

The answers will come.

The next step will reveal itself.

Until then...

There's nothing wrong with simply sitting here for a little while.

May your day be filled with joy, peace, and a moment to simply be.

Until tomorrow...

Take care. 😊
