People Tell You Who They Are... Stop Arguing With the Evidence

One of the most frustrating things we do is ignore what people repeatedly show us.
Someone disappoints us once. We make an excuse.
Twice. We give them grace.
Three, four, five times. We start creating stories to explain their behavior.
At some point, the problem isn't that people are hiding who they are.
The problem is that we're refusing to accept it.
This isn't about being judgmental. It's about being realistic.
When someone consistently lies, they're telling you something.
When someone consistently gossips, they're telling you something.
When someone consistently shows up only when they need something, they're telling you something.
Yet somehow we convince ourselves that if we just wait long enough, they'll become somebody else.
Why?
People can absolutely change. I've seen it happen.
But until they do, believe the evidence.
Too many people are exhausted because they're busy arguing with reality.
When people tell you who they are through their actions, stop debating it.
Take notes.
