Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time.
Those words usually remind us of fairy tales.
Stories that begin with endless possibilities.
Stories where anything could happen.
But today, those words made me think about something else.
My own story.
Once upon a time, I truly believed I was going to become a nurse.
As a child, I actually enjoyed helping people.
If someone had a cut or a scrape, I wanted to help clean it up and make sure they were okay.
There was something about caring for others that made me feel good.
At that point in my life, becoming a nurse seemed like the perfect fit.
Then life happened.
As I got older, something changed.
I became much more sensitive to certain types of injuries.
There were things I simply couldn't watch anymore.
Some situations made me uncomfortable.
Others made me realize that I wasn't built for that particular path.
Little by little, I found myself stepping away from the dream I once held so tightly.
Eventually, I accepted that nursing probably wasn't meant to be my career after all.
At first, that realization felt a little strange.
How could something I once wanted so badly become something I no longer wanted to pursue?
The answer, I think, is simple.
We grow.
We change.
We learn more about ourselves.
Sometimes we discover strengths we never knew we had.
Other times, we discover limitations we never expected.
Neither one is a failure.
They're simply part of becoming who we're meant to be.
Instead of forcing myself toward something that no longer felt right, I began exploring other interests.
I paid attention to the things I genuinely enjoyed.
The things I could fully invest myself in.
The things that felt natural.
Looking back now, I don't regret the dream I once had.
It was part of my journey.
It helped me understand that I enjoy helping people.
That desire never disappeared.
It simply found a different path.
Today, I may not be caring for cuts and bruises.
But I still hope my words can encourage someone.
I still hope my writing can offer comfort, perspective, or simply a reason to smile.
Maybe helping people doesn't always happen in the same way we imagined.
Sometimes the purpose stays the same...
Even when the path changes.
That's something I didn't understand years ago.
But I appreciate it now.
Perhaps that's what "Once upon a time" really means.
It's not only about where we started.
It's about recognizing how far we've come since then.
So today, I encourage you to think back for a moment.
Once upon a time...
Who did you think you were going to become?
What dream did you carry?
Did life take you somewhere different?
If it did, don't be too quick to think you took the wrong road.
Sometimes the destination changes because we've grown into someone new.
And that's perfectly okay.
Have a wonderful Saturday.
Do everything you've been wanting to do.
Make time for yourself.
Create a new memory.
And remember...
Just because one chapter ended doesn't mean the story did.
Sometimes the best chapters are the ones we never saw coming.
Until tomorrow... enjoy.
