Monday: Small Acts of Kindness

Sometimes, it's the smallest things people do that stay with us the longest.

Someone holds the door open when your hands are full. A stranger lets you go ahead of them in line. Someone notices you're having a difficult day and takes a moment to ask if you're okay.

None of these things takes much effort, yet they can mean more than we realize.

We never really know what someone else is dealing with. That person who seems quiet might have a lot on their mind. The person who appears distracted might be trying to work through something they haven't shared with anyone. And the person who smiles at everyone might be the one who needs a little kindness themselves.

It's easy to get caught up in our own lives. We have places to go, things to do, responsibilities to handle, and sometimes we barely have enough time to catch our breath.

Still, kindness doesn't always require extra time. Sometimes it's a smile, a few encouraging words, or simply giving someone a moment to speak without rushing them.

I've always found it interesting how something so small can change the direction of someone's day. We might forget what we did for someone, but they may carry that moment with them for years.

We don't have to know someone's entire story to treat them well. We don't have to agree with everyone or become friends with everybody we meet. We can simply choose to be considerate.

The world has enough things that make life difficult. Maybe we don't need to add to them.

A little kindness won't solve every problem, but it might make a problem feel a little easier to carry.

Something to think about: What's one small act of kindness someone has shown you that you still remember today?
