I Don't Want To
DAILY BLOG
My post content
I don't want to.
How many times have I said those words?
If I'm being honest...
Probably every day.
Not because I dislike life.
Not because I don't appreciate my responsibilities.
But because there are simply some things we do because we have to, even when we don't necessarily want to.
That's part of being an adult.
Responsibilities don't usually ask how we're feeling before they show up.
They simply arrive.
The bills still need paying.
The work still needs doing.
The errands still need running.
Life keeps moving.
Whether we feel like moving with it or not.
The reason this topic came to mind today was because I once had a friend who was refreshingly honest.
If she didn't want to do something...
She said it.
Without hesitation.
Without apology.
She would simply say,
"I don't want to."
And she meant it.
I used to think about that quite a bit.
Part of me admired how direct she was.
Another part of me wondered if life were always that simple.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could all choose only the things we wanted to do?
In a perfect world, perhaps.
Sometimes we do have that choice.
Other times...
We simply don't.
Today happened to be one of those days for me.
There were things I genuinely didn't feel like doing.
If I could have postponed them, I probably would have.
But they still needed to be done.
So I did them.
Not because I suddenly became excited.
Not because my mood magically changed.
But because the responsibility didn't disappear simply because I wasn't in the mood.
The interesting part came afterward.
Once everything was finished...
I felt better.
Much better.
It's funny how that works.
Sometimes the hardest part isn't actually doing the task.
It's convincing ourselves to begin.
Our minds make it seem much bigger than it really is.
Then, once we're finished, we wonder why we resisted it so much in the first place.
I suppose that's another lesson life quietly teaches us.
Feelings are real.
But they don't always have to make our decisions.
There are days when motivation shows up first.
Then there are days when discipline has to lead the way.
Both have their place.
The older I get, the more I realize that not every day will begin with excitement.
Not every morning arrives with endless energy.
Some days simply require us to take one step.
Then another.
Then another.
Until eventually, the work is done.
Looking back, we're often grateful that we kept going.
So if today happens to be one of your "I don't want to" days...
Know this.
You're not the only one.
There are people all over the world who woke up feeling exactly the same way.
Some are heading to work.
Some are caring for family.
Some are handling responsibilities they wish they could postpone.
Yet they're showing up anyway.
And perhaps that's worth recognizing.
Not because it's easy.
But because it takes effort.
So give yourself a little credit today.
You may not have wanted to...
But you did it anyway.
And sometimes that's more than enough.
Have a beautiful Thursday.
Take care of yourself.
Keep showing up.
And remember...
Even the "I don't want to" days eventually come to an end.
Until tomorrow...
