Gone Too Soon

My post content

Gone too soon.

When those words came to mind today, I realized they could mean more than one thing.

The first thing that crossed my mind?

The weekend.

Those two lovely days off.

Isn't it funny how we spend five days looking forward to them, only to blink and suddenly they're over?

Saturday arrives.

Sunday follows.

And before you know it, Monday is standing at the front door waiting to be let in.

Gone too soon.

I think most of us can relate to that feeling.

Two days to rest.

Two days to recharge.

Two days to spend with family, catch up on errands, relax, or simply enjoy not looking at the clock every few minutes.

Then just like that...

They're gone.

Sometimes I jokingly think to myself, wouldn't it be nice if we only worked two days each week and still received forty hours' worth of pay?

Now that's a schedule I could get behind.

Five days off.

Two days of work.

I would definitely sign up for that.

A woman can dream, can't she?

Just thinking about it made me smile.

Maybe even a little more than it should have.

Then again, imagination has always been free.

And sometimes it's nice to let your thoughts wander for a while.

But as I sat with today's title a little longer, another meaning quietly entered my mind.

Gone too soon.

This time, it wasn't about the weekend.

It was about people.

Not long ago, I learned that two gentlemen I once worked with had passed away.

I remember working alongside them.

Talking with them.

Learning from them.

Sharing conversations that, at the time, probably seemed like ordinary moments.

Then one day you hear the news.

And everything changes.

It's a shock.

Not because you expected to see them every day forever.

But because they were once a part of your everyday life.

They were teammates.

People you greeted.

People you learned from.

People you expected would simply continue living their lives, just as you continued living yours.

Then suddenly...

They're gone.

Too soon.

Moments like that have a way of making us stop and think.

They remind us that time is something we all share, yet none of us truly control.

Perhaps that's why people often say,

"Spend time with your family."

"Call your friends."

"Don't wait for the perfect moment."

I'll admit, those phrases can sound cliché.

We've all heard them countless times.

But sometimes clichés become clichés because they're true.

Without spending time together, memories aren't created.

Without conversations, connections slowly fade.

Without making an effort, opportunities to know one another pass us by.

Time invested in people is rarely time wasted.

That thought stayed with me today.

It made me wonder how often we assume there will always be another chance.

Another weekend.

Another phone call.

Another conversation.

Another visit.

Sometimes there is.

Sometimes there isn't.

None of us have all the answers.

I certainly don't.

But I do know this.

The people we meet along the way leave pieces of themselves with us.

Some teach us lessons.

Some make us laugh.

Some encourage us.

Some challenge us.

And some simply remind us how valuable a shared moment can be.

Perhaps that's the real gift.

Not how long someone remains in our lives.

But the impact they make while they're here.

So as I end today's thoughts, I'm reminded to appreciate both the little things and the important things.

Enjoy the weekends, even though they always seem to disappear too quickly.

Take the walk.

Make the phone call.

Visit the people who matter.

Share a laugh.

Create a memory.

Because time has a way of reminding us that nothing lasts forever.

And sometimes the things we treasure most...

Feel like they were gone too soon.

Until next time, don't just count the days.

Make the days count.
