Friday: The Waiting Game
DAILY BLOG
My post content
Waiting is one of those things we all experience, but that doesn't mean we enjoy it.
We wait for appointments, responses to messages, opportunities, decisions, and sometimes answers to questions that have been on our minds for a long time.
There's the kind of waiting where we know exactly what's supposed to happen and when. Then there's the kind where we have no idea how long we'll be waiting or what the outcome will be.
That second kind can be difficult.
When we don't know what comes next, our minds can get busy filling in the blanks. We wonder whether things are going to work out, whether we should do something differently, or whether we're waiting for something that may never happen.
We might check our phones more often than usual, revisit the same thoughts, or ask ourselves questions we don't have the answers to yet.
It's easy to get caught up in the waiting itself.
And while we're waiting, life is still happening. There are things to do, people to see, responsibilities to handle, and moments that deserve our attention.
Sometimes, we put those things on hold because we're waiting for one particular situation to resolve itself.
We tell ourselves we'll feel better when we get the answer. We'll make a decision once we know more. We'll start doing something else when we have a clearer picture of what's ahead.
Sometimes, that makes sense. There are situations where we genuinely need information before we can move forward.
But other times, we may have more room to live our lives than we realize.
We can continue working toward other goals while waiting for an answer. We can enjoy our day without knowing exactly how everything will turn out. We can make plans that are possible now rather than putting our entire lives on pause.
That doesn't mean we stop caring about the outcome. It means we recognize that the waiting period is still part of our lives, and we deserve to experience it rather than simply endure it.
I think patience is easier to talk about than to practice. We want answers, and we want them when we're ready for them. Unfortunately, life doesn't always operate on our schedule.
Sometimes, all we can do is handle what's in front of us and allow the rest to unfold.
And perhaps, while we're waiting, we can learn something about ourselves, too.
Something to think about: Is there something you're waiting for right now that has made it difficult to focus on the present?
