Final countdown.
I have to smile every time I hear those words.
Years ago, I worked with someone who would say them almost every day.
"Final countdown."
At first, I thought it was different.
Not in a bad way.
Just different.
It wasn't a phrase I had ever used before.
Matter of fact, I don't think I'd ever even thought about saying it.
But something interesting happened.
The more I heard her say it, the more familiar it became.
Before long, I found myself saying it too.
Funny how that happens.
Sometimes the little things people say quietly become part of our own vocabulary.
The reason she always said "Final countdown" was simple.
She was claiming the end of the workday.
The shift was almost over.
The finish line was finally in sight.
Those two words became her way of celebrating that another day's work was almost complete.
I always thought that was kind of neat.
Over time, I realized the phrase could mean much more than the end of a work shift.
Now I find myself using it in several different ways.
When my workday is coming to an end...
Final countdown.
When I'm wrapping up a project I've spent hours working on...
Final countdown.
When it's almost time to call it a night and get some much-needed rest...
Final countdown.
Even when I'm checking the last few things off my to-do list...
There it is again.
Final countdown.
One simple phrase.
So many different meanings.
The more I thought about it today, the more I realized how much influence people can have on us without ever knowing it.
Sometimes it isn't through a major life lesson.
Sometimes it isn't through a long conversation.
Sometimes it's something as simple as a phrase they say every day.
A habit.
A smile.
A way of greeting people.
A favorite expression.
Little things have a funny way of leaving lasting impressions.
I think that's one of the beautiful parts of meeting different people throughout life.
Not everyone stays forever.
Some people are part of our lives for years.
Others for only a short season.
But almost everyone leaves something behind.
A lesson.
A memory.
A story.
A different way of looking at life.
Or maybe...
Just a phrase.
That's why I enjoy meeting different personalities.
Everyone has something unique to offer.
Some people teach us patience.
Some teach us resilience.
Some teach us what we do—and don't—want to become.
And some simply give us a phrase that makes us smile years later.
Isn't that something?
It's a reminder that we never really know what others will remember about us.
Maybe it won't be something grand.
Maybe it'll simply be the way we made them feel.
Or the little saying we repeated so often that one day they caught themselves saying it too.
I like that thought.
It reminds me that even the smallest things can have a lasting impact.
So today, I leave you with one question.
Is there a phrase someone once said that you still find yourself using today?
If there is...
Take a moment to smile.
Because somewhere along the way, they left a little piece of themselves with you.
And perhaps...
You've done the same for someone else.
Well...
I'd better land this reflection the only way that feels right today.
