Everyday Is An Adventure

Everyday is an adventure.
At least that's what I have come to believe.
And if what I write about sometimes seems random, trust me, there is a reason for it.
Life itself is random.
One minute you're drinking your morning coffee, thinking about what needs to be accomplished that day, and the next minute you're standing in a situation you never saw coming.
The day is what it has already been made.
We can control ourselves.
We can control our reactions.
But controlling other people?
That's an entirely different conversation.
Have any of you ever worked in customer service?
A retail store?
A trade service?
Security?
Maybe even a call center?
If so, then you probably understand exactly where I'm headed.
When you're on the receiving end of dealing with customers, every day becomes an experience.
Some experiences are pleasant.
Some are memorable.
And some leave you sitting in your car afterward wondering, "What in the world just happened?"
Well, let me fill you in.
Imagine you're called to service a customer's home.
Their air conditioner isn't working.
Now, where I live, that's a serious issue.
It's hot. Hot hot.
The kind of heat that makes you appreciate air conditioning the second you step outside.
So you arrive at the customer's home.
You knock on the door.
The customer answers.
Only they're wearing a towel or robe.
A little awkward, perhaps, but okay.
You explain why you're there.
They explain the issue.
The problem is inside the home rather than outside.
Still manageable.
Then they tell you to come in.
You're a female technician.
The customer is male.
And before long, he casually says something along the lines of:
"I'll be in the shower. The bathroom door will be open. Just yell if you need anything."
Now pause right there.
Because that's exactly where my comfort level paused too.
Needless to say, that was my experience.
And needless to say, I became very uncomfortable.
Not because I couldn't do my job.
Not because I wasn't capable of handling the service call.
But because personal space and professional boundaries matter.
At least they do to me.
I made it known that I was uncomfortable.
I handled the situation.
And ultimately, I ended it.
Especially after the behaviour that followed.
The entire experience left me thinking.
Have we reached a point where boundaries are becoming optional?
Are personal standards no longer expected?
Or am I simply old-fashioned in believing there should be a certain level of respect between people?
Maybe someone reading this sees nothing unusual about the situation.
Maybe others immediately understand why it felt inappropriate.
Either way, it made me reflect on something bigger.
Morals.
Values.
Respect.
Not just respect for other people.
Respect for yourself.
Because sometimes the way we carry ourselves tells others what we are willing to accept and what we are not.
There is nothing wrong with establishing boundaries.
There is nothing wrong with protecting your comfort.
And there is certainly nothing wrong with walking away from situations that don't align with your values.
The older I get, the more I realize that not everyone operates from the same place.
What seems obvious to one person may seem unnecessary to another.
What feels respectful to one person may feel completely different to someone else.
That's life.
That's people.
That's reality.
And perhaps that's why every day feels like an adventure.
Not because something dramatic happens every day.
But because every day introduces us to different personalities, different situations, and different perspectives.
Some make us laugh.
Some make us think.
And some become stories we never expected to tell.
This week started with uncertainty.
It moved into reflection.
It challenged me to think about growth, forgiveness, and resilience.
And now it ends with a reminder that life has a funny way of keeping things interesting.
So if today's lesson is anything, it's this:
You never know what experience is waiting around the corner.
You never know what story you'll have by the end of the day.
And sometimes the best thing you can do is trust yourself, honour your boundaries, and keep moving forward.
Because every damn day is an adventure.
