Enthusiast
DAILY BLOG
My post content
There have been moments in my life when I've come across people whose energy could completely change the atmosphere around them. They walk into a room smiling, excited about the day, talking about new ideas, new places to visit, or something as simple as trying a different restaurant. They have a way of making ordinary moments feel a little more exciting. Every time I've been around someone like that, I've found myself smiling too. Their enthusiasm has a way of spreading without them even trying.
As I thought about today's word, I had to be honest with myself. I don't know that I've always considered myself an enthusiast. I've certainly had enthusiastic moments. I've been excited about writing a new book, creating a new song, discovering something during my research, or sharing one of these daily blogs. Those moments are real. But if I compare myself to people who naturally carry that joyful, energetic spirit every single day, I realize I've often been more reflective than expressive. More thoughtful than spontaneous.
That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it did make me ask myself an important question. Why not welcome a little more enthusiasm into my life?
The older I've become, the more I've realized that enthusiasm is much more than excitement. It's an outlook. It's choosing to see possibility before limitation. It's allowing yourself to become genuinely excited about life, even when life isn't perfect. It's celebrating the little victories instead of waiting for the biggest ones. I think that's a beautiful way to move through the world.
I've watched people become enthusiastic about the smallest things. A morning walk. A fresh cup of coffee. Finding a book they've been looking for. Planning a vacation months away. Spending time with family. Learning a new skill. At first, I wondered how someone could become so excited over something that seemed so ordinary. Then I realized maybe I was looking at it the wrong way. Perhaps they had already discovered something I was still learning. Joy doesn't always come from extraordinary moments. Sometimes it comes from fully appreciating ordinary ones.
I can honestly say there have been seasons of my life when I didn't fully embrace that way of thinking. Responsibilities had my attention. Work had my attention. Goals had my attention. I was so focused on accomplishing the next thing that I occasionally forgot to simply enjoy the present moment. Looking back now, I realize enthusiasm isn't a distraction from life. It can actually become one of the reasons life feels more meaningful.
That is something I want to carry with me more often. Not because I'm trying to become someone else, but because I believe enthusiasm is a healthy trait to embrace. It encourages curiosity. It creates positive energy. It reminds us to celebrate progress instead of constantly waiting for perfection. Most of all, it has a way of lifting not only our own spirits, but the spirits of those around us.
So if there's one thing I hope to become better at, it's allowing myself to embrace those moments more freely. To laugh a little louder. To become excited about the little things. To celebrate accomplishments without immediately rushing to the next goal. To appreciate the journey just as much as the destination.
If you're someone who naturally carries that enthusiastic spirit, thank you. People like you make the world feel lighter. Your excitement has a way of reminding the rest of us that life isn't only about responsibilities and routines. It's also about wonder, joy, and enjoying the moment we're standing in.
As for me, I'll continue welcoming that energy whenever it finds me. I don't need to become a completely different person. I simply want to become more intentional about embracing the beautiful moments that deserve my excitement. Life gives us enough reasons to be serious. I think it's perfectly alright to meet it with a little more enthusiasm every now and then.
Enjoy your Saturday... Until tomorrow.
