Does it come with instructions?
Well, what a title.
I know.
The funny thing is, this title came from a conversation I had on Saturday. It wasn't some deep philosophical discussion or a life-changing revelation. It was simply one of those conversations that leaves a thought sitting in your mind long after it ends.
And apparently, it decided to stay with me until Monday morning.
As adults, I sometimes think we're expected to read each other's minds.
Someone asks us to do something, and somehow we're supposed to know exactly how they want it done, how they need it done, and how quickly they expect it to be completed.
No explanation.
No details.
Just the expectation that we'll figure it out.
And maybe that's why the title came to me.
Does it come with instructions?
With it being Monday and the start of another work week, I can't help but wonder how much of that will become my reality today.
How many requests will be made?
How many expectations will appear?
How many situations will require me to somehow know information that was never actually shared?
I guess I'll find out soon enough.
The thought also made me think about actual instructions.
You know, the ones that come with products.
Especially the things we purchase and use every single day.
If instructions exist, why do they sometimes feel like they were written by someone who has never actually used the product?
And why are they occasionally one page long but somehow still leave you confused?
Or even better, why are some instructions five pages long and somehow make less sense than the one-page version?
I can't be the only person who has looked at a set of instructions and thought, "Well, this isn't helping at all."
At that point, most of us just start pressing buttons and hoping for the best.
Then there are the situations where no instructions are needed.
Those moments when things simply make sense.
When the process feels natural.
When experience takes over and you just know what to do.
I wish more things in life worked that way.
But perhaps that's part of being human.
We're all trying to figure things out as we go.
Some people are better at asking questions.
Some are better at giving directions.
And some seem convinced that everyone around them should already know exactly what they mean.
Those are the situations that make me smile.
Not because they're easy.
But because they're so common.
As I sit here writing this before heading off to work, I find myself wondering what today has waiting for me.
What will be dished out during work?
What surprises will show up after work?
What conversations will happen with family members?
Will the requests be simple?
Or will they arrive wrapped in pure complexity?
Only time will tell.
The day hasn't unfolded yet.
The story hasn't been written.
The instructions—if there are any—haven't been handed out.
And perhaps that's what makes each day interesting.
We don't always know what's coming.
We don't always know what's expected.
Sometimes we simply show up and do our best with the information we have.
Maybe that's enough.
Before I head out, I want to leave you with the same question that's been bouncing around in my head.
Do you ever find yourself in situations that seem to come without instructions?
If so, how do you handle them?
Do you ask questions?
Do you figure it out as you go?
Or do you quietly wonder if everyone else received a handbook that somehow skipped your mailbox?
My inquiring mind would certainly like to know.
Maybe it's curiosity.
Maybe it's Monday.
Maybe it's both.
Either way, the work week is calling, and I should probably answer.
So with that said, Happy Monday.
May today bring clarity where it's needed, patience where it's required, and maybe even a few instructions that actually make sense.
Until next time, let today be a day worth seeking out.
Bye for now.
