By grace.

Funny how a single word can stop you in your tracks.

Today I was watching a reel when a song came on that I honestly haven't heard in probably ten years.

Almost instantly, it grabbed my attention.

As I listened, one word from the title stood out to me.

Grace.

It stayed with me long after the song ended.

Curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to look up the definition.

Interestingly enough, I found three meanings listed first. There were more hidden beneath a drop-down menu, but something told me to sit with the first three before

looking any further.

They read:

1. Simple elegance or refinement of movement.

2. Courteous goodwill.

3. To honour or credit someone or something by one's presence.

I paused.

Not because I didn't understand the definitions.

But because I began wondering how often grace quietly appears in our everyday lives without us ever calling it by name.

As I thought about my workday, I realized I probably experience grace more often than I notice.

There are moments when I'm deeply involved in researching an issue or helping someone solve a problem.

I'm focused.

Concentrated.

Working through the task in front of me.

Then someone else needs help.

Now I have a choice.

I can ignore the interruption.

Or I can pause what I'm doing long enough to assist another person.

More often than not, I choose to help.

Not because it's always convenient.

Not because it doesn't delay what I was already working on.

But because sometimes helping someone else becomes just as important as finishing my own task.

The interesting part is that once everything settles down, I simply return to what I had placed on hold.

The original work is still there.

It patiently waits for me.

And somehow, by the end of it all, both situations have been handled.

Both people received what they needed.

Both problems found a solution.

As I reflected on that today, I couldn't help but think that maybe this is one way grace shows itself.

Not in grand gestures.

Not in dramatic moments.

But in everyday choices.

Choosing patience over frustration.

Choosing kindness over inconvenience.

Choosing to notice someone else's need instead of pretending not to see it.

Because let's be honest.

It would be easy to walk past the background noise of life.

It would be easy to stay focused only on ourselves.

It would be easy to think, "Someone else will help."

But every once in a while, we have an opportunity to be that someone else.

And perhaps that's where grace quietly lives.

In the willingness to pause.

To listen.

To help.

To encourage.

To make another person's day just a little lighter.

Sometimes all it takes is a few minutes.

A kind word.

A little patience.

Or simply showing up when someone needs you.

The older I get, the more I realize that the smallest acts often leave the greatest impression.

A smile.

A conversation.

A helping hand.

None of those things require perfection.

They simply require presence.

I know there's a saying that "no good deed goes unpunished."

And perhaps, at times, it can feel that way.

Helping others isn't always easy.

Sometimes it costs us time.

Sometimes it requires extra effort.

Sometimes it interrupts our plans.

But I still believe kindness is worth giving.

Because you never truly know what someone else is carrying.

Your willingness to stop, notice, and help may be exactly what they needed that day.

So today's reflection leaves me with one thought.

Perhaps grace isn't just something we receive.

Perhaps it's also something we choose to give.

One decision.

One conversation.

One act of kindness at a time.

Food for thought.

Just another daily experience.

Happy Tuesday.

May you both receive grace... and have the opportunity to extend it to someone else.
