Oh my gosh...

I just won a million dollars today!

Yay!

Now that's the kind of breaking news I'd love to report.

Can you imagine?

What a blessing that would be.

I can already picture myself smiling from ear to ear, sharing the good news with everyone I know and giving thanks for such an incredible surprise.

Now that's a headline worth reading.

Speaking that kind of news into existence would certainly make for an unforgettable day.

A woman can dream, can't she?

The funny thing is, today's title came to me while I was watching the news.

Well...

Kind of watching.

The television was on, but I had the volume turned down.

Every now and then I'd glance at the screen to see what was happening.

It made me realize something.

You can often tell the story without hearing a single word.

The images.

The expressions.

The captions across the bottom of the screen.

Most of the time, they tell you everything you need to know.

I found myself reading the headlines more than anything else.

One story after another.

And if I'm being honest...

A lot of the news didn't seem very joyful.

That's usually the way it goes.

The stories often focus on tragedy, conflict, or something that has gone wrong.

Every once in a while there's a heartwarming story tucked in between everything else.

But those seem to be the exception rather than the rule.

Then my imagination decided to take over.

What if my day became the breaking news?

Imagine this headline...

"Local woman walking through her neighborhood discovers several hundred-dollar bills crumpled on the sidewalk."

I look around.

Nobody's there.

No one claims them.

So I walk away four hundred dollars richer.

Now that would make for an interesting story.

I actually laughed just thinking about it.

Can you imagine telling someone that happened?

I'd probably have to tell the story twice because they wouldn't believe me the first time.

Maybe that's a sign.

Or maybe it's simply my imagination having a little fun.

Either way, it made me smile.

I suppose that's one of the beautiful things about our thoughts.

For a few moments, we get to imagine possibilities.

We get to dream a little.

We get to picture life unfolding in ways we never expected.

And honestly...

There's nothing wrong with that.

Dreams have a way of keeping hope alive.

They remind us that tomorrow could bring something wonderful.

Maybe not a million dollars.

Maybe not four hundred dollars lying on the sidewalk.

But perhaps a new opportunity.

A new friendship.

A new blessing.

Or simply a really good day.

Those things are worth hoping for too.

So today, I think I'll write my own breaking news.

Breaking News:

Another day has been given.

Another opportunity has arrived.

Another chance to smile, to grow, and to appreciate the life in front of me.

Now that's a headline I don't mind sharing.

Have a beautiful day.

Keep dreaming.

Keep smiling.

And who knows...

Maybe one day the breaking news you've been hoping for will become your reality.
