Back Down Memory Lane
DAILY BLOG

Back down memory lane.
The other day, a thought unexpectedly crossed my mind.
Not just any thought.
One of those thoughts that quietly appears out of nowhere and immediately takes your mind somewhere you haven't visited in years.
It caught me off guard.
I couldn't understand why that particular memory decided to show up.
We all have thousands of thoughts throughout the day.
Some stay for only a moment.
Others leave as quickly as they arrive.
But every now and then, one thought decides to linger.
This one certainly did.
It took me way back.
As I sat reflecting, I found myself remembering a day here in Arizona.
I was driving along Interstate 10, making my way to where I needed to be.
Everything seemed normal.
Traffic was moving.
The day was going as planned.
Then, for reasons I still can't fully explain, I suddenly felt the need to pull off the freeway.
It wasn't panic.
It wasn't fear.
It was simply one of those feelings that told me, "Pull over."
So I did.
And I'm thankful that I listened.
After getting off the freeway, I quickly realized my back right tire had gone flat.
Looking back now, I can only imagine what could have happened had I continued driving.
Instead, I was able to safely pull into a nearby hotel parking lot.
I parked as best I could under the circumstances and began figuring out what to do next.
Then something happened that I'll never forget.
A gentleman noticed my situation.
Without hesitation, he came over and offered to help.
He changed my tire.
Made sure I was okay.
And because of his kindness, I was able to safely continue to my destination.
No pun intended.
Moments like that stay with you.
Not because they happen every day.
But because they remind you that kindness still exists.
I've often said that I believe I've had people placed in my path exactly when I needed them.
Some might call it good timing.
Some might call it luck.
For me, it has always felt like something more.
Almost as though I've had a guardian angel looking out for me.
When I think back over my life, I realize there have been several moments where things could have gone differently.
Yet somehow, things worked out.
Maybe not perfectly.
Maybe not easily.
But safely.
I don't take those moments for granted.
They remind me to be thankful.
Thankful for protection.
Thankful for people willing to help complete strangers.
Thankful that even during unexpected situations, there are still individuals who choose kindness without expecting anything in return.
The older I get, the more I appreciate those moments.
Not because they erase life's challenges.
But because they remind me that we don't always have to face those challenges alone.
Sometimes help arrives when we least expect it.
Sometimes encouragement shows up in the form of a stranger.
Sometimes a simple act of kindness becomes a memory that stays with us for years.
Perhaps that's why this thought found its way back to me.
Not to remind me of the flat tire.
But to remind me of the person who stopped to help.
Maybe that's the memory I was meant to revisit.
As I continue writing these daily reflections, I'm beginning to appreciate how our memories have a way of teaching us long after the moment has passed.
Some memories make us smile.
Some make us stronger.
And some quietly remind us just how blessed we've been.
So today, I found myself taking a little trip back down memory lane.
And honestly...
I'm grateful I did.
Happy Tuesday.
May you never overlook the kindness you've received, and may you always find opportunities to extend that same kindness to someone else.
Until tomorrow...
Take care, and keep making memories worth remembering.
