Age ain't nothing but a number.

Now haven't I heard that statement more times than I can count?

Of course, every time I hear it, my mind immediately goes to the song by R&B artist Aaliyah.

She was truly gifted.

Although I only knew her through her music and what she shared with the world, I still celebrate the talent she gave us during her time here.

She left a lasting impression through her artistry, and her music continues to be enjoyed by so many.

When I really stopped to think about that title, though, my thoughts went much further than the song.

It made me think about age itself.

No matter how young we are...

Or how many birthdays we've celebrated...

Age is, in many ways, just a number.

Now before anyone says, "Wait a minute..."

I understand that age has its place.

It marks milestones.

It celebrates accomplishments.

It reminds us how far we've come.

It can open certain doors.

It can close others.

It can even place limits on what society believes we should or shouldn't do.

But does it truly define us?

I don't think so.

As I reflected on today's title, my thoughts naturally drifted toward my grandparents.

I had the blessing of knowing three of them well.

Each one lived to nearly one hundred years old.

Looking back now...

What a gift that was.

At the time, I don't think I fully appreciated what I was witnessing.

Now I do.

Watching them grow older was almost priceless.

They continued living.

They continued learning.

They continued loving.

They continued showing up for life.

Some of the things I watched them accomplish at their age were nothing short of amazing.

It's funny how your perspective changes over time.

When you're young, you rarely think about age the way you do later in life.

But as the years pass, you begin to understand something important.

Age tells us how long we've lived.

It doesn't always tell us what we're capable of.

I've seen young children do things that leave adults speechless.

A toddler displaying incredible talent.

An elementary school student mastering a skill far beyond their years.

Teenagers creating businesses.

Young adults changing the world.

Then we move into middle age.

People in their forties.

Their fifties.

Their sixties.

Still learning.

Still building.

Still discovering new passions.

Still chasing dreams they refused to give up on.

And then come those incredible stories that always seem to make us smile.

Someone in their seventies taking up a new hobby.

Someone in their eighties traveling the world.

Someone in their nineties walking every morning without fail.

And those remarkable individuals who reach one hundred years old and are still moving with purpose, sharing wisdom, and enjoying each new day.

Now that's something worth talking about.

In a very good way.

I've also come across videos online that leave me in complete awe.

It's amazing what the human mind and body can accomplish when they're given the opportunity.

Sometimes age surprises us.

Sometimes determination surprises us even more.

The more I think about it, the more I believe the mind, body, and soul all have their own role to play.

When they work together, amazing things can happen.

Not because of a certain age...

But because of a certain mindset.

So as we continue making our way through this journey called life, I hope we remember not to place too much emphasis on the number itself.

Celebrate your birthdays.

Celebrate your milestones.

Celebrate every year you've been blessed to experience.

But don't let the number convince you that your best days are already behind you.

You may still have dreams waiting to be fulfilled.

Goals waiting to be reached.

Adventures waiting to be experienced.

And memories waiting to be made.

After all...

Age may tell us how many years we've lived.

But it doesn't always determine how fully we'll live them.

Just a few thoughts on this lovely Thursday.

Keep showing up for life.
